The Inter-Institutional Roundtable on Juvenile Criminal Justice (MIJPJ) began drafting the 2015 Annual Operating Programme (POA) for the protection, promotion and defence of the rights and guarantees of adolescents and young people in conflict with the law.

«The Inter-institutional Panel on Juvenile Criminal Justice held a meeting to begin drafting the POA for the present administration, which will include six areas for attention to and defense of the rights of adolescents and young people in conflict with the law,» reported Minister of Justice Virginia Velasco.

The authority explained that the six areas include communication; training; advocacy; implementation of the application of alternative measures to the deprivation of liberty with a restorative approach; strengthening of the Departmental Juvenile Criminal Justice Boards; and the implementation of programs for Orientation Centers and Rehabilitation Centers for the Technical Government Instances.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), ProgettoMondo MLAL, Training and Citizens’ Rights (CDC); the General Directorate of the Penitentiary System (DGRP), the State Attorney’s Office, TUTATOR Foundation, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR), Construir Foundation, Save the Children and the Office of the Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents.

MIJPJ, was created approximately 14 years ago and was recognized by the Committee on the Rights of the Child.

The institutions that make up this roundtable are Ministry of Justice (Presidency), Public Defense, Office of the Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents, Departmental Social Management Service (SEDEGES), General Directorate of the Prison System, ProggettoMondo Mlal, Prison Pastoral, UNICEF, UNODC, OHCHR, Fundación Construir, Capacitación y Derechos Ciudadanos, CVCS, Tutator Foundation.
